Whether there was a physical relationship or not, Andrew Wyeth surely loved Helga Testorf. She appeared in 245 images that he created over a 14-year period, 45(!) paintings and 200 drawings. They were kept secret from their spouses for all that time and created quite a stir, along with some marital strains, when they became public in 1986. Wyeth died only three years ago but presumably Testorf is still living in the Chadd’s Ford area, perhaps wincing, perhaps smiling, as she thinks of all the fuss created by her nudity.
Wyeth’s wife Betsy viewed the relationship with equanimity, at least in public: “The Helga paintings created a sensation when their existence was revealed in 1986, in part because many were nudes and because of Betsy Wyeth’s provocative answer when asked what the works were about. ‘Love,’ she said. ‘He’s a very secret person. He doesn’t pry in my life and I don’t pry in his. And it’s worth it,’ she said.” A remarkable woman, Mrs. Wyeth. Of course, the $6 to $10 million dollars that Wyeth sold the Helga Collection for shortly after revealing it to his wife may have helped her disposition considerably.

My other source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Helga_Pictures. I am a big fan of romance, the bond formed between one man and one woman that can endure for many years. Sometimes the circumstances make it so much more intriguing and poignant.

This comment is better than my chapter-a-day reading. Excellent!
